Hace 58 años, AT&T puso en órbita el primer satélite de comunicaciones comerciales

July 10,

1962 date the communication was made global thanks to Telstar1.

I launched by NASA from Cape Canaveral, FL.

It was created by Bell Laboratories for AT&T

It still exists? SI

Pesa 77kg.

It has a spherical design of 8.7m in length, it is composed of 3600 solar cells and surrounds the planet every two and a half hours.

Stayed active for 7 months.

Facilited more than 400 telephone, telegraph, fax and television transmissions.

It is the result of three inventions developed by Bell Laboratories:

  • The Transistor
  • The Solar Cell
  • The Progressive Wave Tube

Its main function was to receive television and telephone signals broadcast in the United States, amplify them 10 billion times and broadcast them in Europe - and vice versa.

The first transatlantic television broadcast took place on July 23, 1962 and starred John F. Kennedy, 35th President of the United States.

Its development was made possible by engineer John Pierce, who created the project from ideas he found in science fiction books. https://www.bell-labs.com/about/history-bell-labs/stories-changed-world/first-active-orbiting-communications-satellite/ 2 https://www.nasa.gov/topics/technology/features/telstar.html Todos los Derechos Reservados ©, 2020, en favor de AT&T Intellectual Property II, L.P. con domicilio en Nevada, Estados Unidos de América.
